Lawrence Cherono of Kenya
wins Prague international marathon
Lawrence Cherono won the Prague
International Marathon on Sunday while Lucy Karimi claimed the women's race to
lead a Kenyan sweep in both races.
Cherono pulled away from last year's
winner Felix Kipchirchir Kandie with about three kilometers to go to complete
the race in 2 hours, 7 minutes and 24 seconds for his personal best.
Cherono said: "I'm happy
because I improved my (best) time."
Kenyan runners took the first six
places. Kandie finished in 2 hours, 8 minutes and 14 seconds and Solomon Kirwa
Yego was third in 2:08:31 in his first marathon.
Karimi crossed the finish line in
2:24:46, edging Purity Rionoripo in second by 14 seconds while and Risper Chebet
was third.
Some 10,600 runners participated in
the 22nd edition of the race.
