Kenya Wins 15th World Athletics Championship
In China
Kenya made history by winning the
15th International Association of Athletics Federation (IAAF) world
championship in Beijing, China that came to a close on August 30.
Kenya led the pack with 7 gold, 6
silver and 3 bronze medals.
Asbel Kiprop capped the seventh
gold medal and became the first Kenyan to win a hat trick in men’s
1,500m in 3 minutes 34.40 seconds.
Kiprop’s team mate Elijah
Manangoi took the silver in 3:34.63 and Morocco’s Abdelaati Iguider threw
himself across the line to secure the bronze in 3:34.67.

Since the modern day world athletics
championship first held in 1983 Kenya has so far collected 145 gold, 94 silver
and 78 bronze medals.
Jamaica finished second overall with
7 gold, 2 silver and 3 bronze while United States of America came third with 5
gold, 6 silver and 6 bronze.
